John served with the 101st Airborne in Viet Nam during 1969-70.
Ms. Phan thi Kim Tuyet, Program Assistant and Interpreter
Tuyet is LOTUS ’s first official employee in Viet Nam. She is a program coordinator and has responsibility for interpretation, translations, managing the Open-Heart Program and assisting with accounting. Tuyet also conducts family assessments and writes heart reports to our donors.
Tuyet comes to us from Da Lat City in Lam Dong Province. Tuyet is married and has two children. She graduated from Da Lat University in 2005 with a degree in English and minor certificates in French and accounting. During 2 summers while at the university she volunteered as a teacher for ethnic minorities in the local mountainous area. She has been a tour guide and tutored high school students in English.
Before coming to work for LOTUS she was a sales representative for the XQ Silk Hand Embroidery Company in Da Lat. Her employment with LOTUS began on March 19, 2007.
Ms. Le thi Quynh Chau, Assistant Director and interpreter.
Chau is a long-time assistant to John during tenures at three different NGOs. She is the assistant country director for LOTUS and responsible for all daily management activities for the organization.
Chau is a native of Quang Tri Province. She is married and has two children. Chau has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Hue University and later completed a degree in English. She worked with John for four years at the Quang Tri office for the East Meets West Foundation then joined him for a five-year stint managing the Kids First Village for handicapped children (also in Dong Ha, Quang Tri). During the same time they were employed at Kids First Village, Chau and John also supervised the LOTUS sewing and embroidery vocational training program for deaf and poor students located on the Village campus, off-campus they managed LOTUS’s kindergarten construction program in A Luoi District of Thua-Thien Hue Province. Chau’s management and negotiating skills have been critical to LOTUS’s successes.
Ms. Tran Thi Khanh Van, Program Coordinator and Interpreter
Van is also a native of Quang Tri Province. She joined LOTUS full-time at the beginning of 2015 and is
now one of our three staff in Dong Ha. During the preceding year she worked for us part-time out of Da Nang.
Van comes to LOTUS with lots of experience. She worked for the East Meets West Foundation (EMW) for seven years during which time she helped manage their heart program in both Dong Ha and Da Nang offices. After leaving EMW she worked for a Spanish non-governmental organization called Paz Y Desarrollo as a project assistant for two years.
Van was born in Quang Tri Province. She graduated from the University of Hue with a degree in English in 1999. She is married and has two children.
