LOTUS is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in 2006. Formed by a U.S. Vietnam Veteren familiar with conditions of need throughout the world, LOTUS has grown in scope and impact while maintaining a small organizational footprint. LOTUS is made up of volunteers providing their precious time and money to support the mission.
LOTUS has operated philanthropic programs in
LOTUS manages an active program providing more than 925 Open Heart surgeries to youth in poor families in Viet Nam using its own funds and those of international and in-country partners.
LOTUS is partnered with Rotary International in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico to provide water facilities at a local level. Working in ommunities with impaired water services, local home owner teams are provided technical assistance and construction materials to install home-based water cisterns.
Your donation to LOTUS is multiplied many times over through our relationships with funding and program partners. For example, a $275 gift will be matched to other funding sources and can provide the funds necessary to support an individual heart operation at Huế Central Hospital costing between $2,000 and $3,250 US .
A similar amount earmarked for our Mexico water program will, when combined with other partner donations, fund the materials to allow an individual family to build their own cistern.
2016 has been a busy year for LOTUS staff in central Viet Nam. We have travelled throughout 8 central provinces to assess more than individual cases of need.
Back in Đông Hà our in-country staff is working feverishly to match patients' needs with our funding. We anticipate more than XX operations will be scheduled this year.
Our Mexican non-profit partners have worked to provide more than 626 water systems in 24 communities. throughout the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.
The program provides for safe drinking water in a region beset by poverty and high concentrations of arsenic and floride in ground water. Home-based cisterns offers residents a low-cost, sustainable source of clean drinking water.
LOTUS has just released an outcome report detailing 1,144 surgeries carried out in Viet Nam in from 2007 through 2016.
Aided by funds from LOTUS more than 20 individual water systems were installed in 3 communities in 2015. A report documenting these projects is available in our Outcomes section.
